Gilardi came to know the Mastiff by chance at the beginning of the 1980s
and it was love at first sight. With the help of his dear friend, the great
English breeder Mrs Mary Joynes, the first lovely brindle puppy named Astro
arrived. Thus began a wonderful and difficult adventure, which led him to
have a thorough knowledge of this marvellous breed and the world which surrounds
it. With the arrival of the first litter he was immediately aware of the
Mastiff's weak points: movement and character, and the challenge was launched.
With the importation from America of five Mastiffs carrying the oldest and
most prestigious American bloodlines (Deer Run, Kisumu, Mqh, Groppetti)
and the cross-breeding of these with his own English examples, after ten
years he achieved, through selection very typical subjects. They possessed
excellent movement and character, with which he had great success and approval
in dog shows, sporting events and as family pets. At this moment in time
he is the founder, signatory and manager of the ' Dell'Erpima' kennels,
where he takes care of the technical side: public relations, birth programming,
genetics and selectioning of the breed, sport and showing. The side concerned
with training, planning of courses and tax is looked after by Signora Simona
Veronesi, owner of the farm 'Dell'Abete Bianco'.
